So Did Lots of Celebs Stay on target Instagram on Wednesday celebrated one year of Stories—the Snapchat ripoff now more popular than Snapchat.The ephemeral feature has proved a boon for Instagram, which reported an increase in average usage: 32 minutes a day by those under 25, and 24 minutes per day by those 25 and up.And, in the last month alone, more than 50 percent of businesses on Instagram produced a Story; one in five received a direct message in response.Snapchat introduced Stories in October 2013, allowing folks to add text and drawings to photo canvases, which live for 24 hours before expiring. Instagram followed suit last year, later adding face filters and stickers to its vanishing slideshows.“Kudos to Snapchat for being the first to Stories,” Instagram Vice President of Product Kevin Weil said in a May statement. “But it’s a format, and it’s going to be adopted widely across a lot of different platforms.”It’s also going to thrive on different platforms, much to Snap, Inc.’s chagrin.In the first quarter of 2017, the mobile app counted 166 million daily active users—a 36 percent increase over the same time last year.
