first_imgThe Drake University men’s basketball team plays its next-to-last home game of the season on Wednesday night when it hosts Evansville at 8 p.m. in the Knapp Center.Wednesday’s game will feature two of the top three scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference in Evansville’s D.J. Balentine and Drake’s Reed Timmer. Balentine is second in the league in scoring at 20.3 points per game while Timmer is third at 17.3 points per game. In the first meeting this season, Balentine scored 21 points while Timmer had 19. Drake’s Billy Wampler scored a career-high 14 points in the 84-65 loss in Evansville.Drake returns to its home court with a 6-20 overall record and a 1-13 mark in conference play. Evansville is 20-7 overall and 9-5 in the league. Last week, Timmer became just the third Valley player to score 20 or more points against Wichita State. He needs 51 points to reach the 500-point mark this season and become the 19th Bulldog to reach that milestone.Fellow sophomore Ore Arogundade has averaged 9.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in the last eight games and has now had seven or more rebounds in six-straight games.Freshman center Dominik Olejniczak has also seen his offensive production surge as he is 31-of-39 from the field in the last nine games and has scored nine or more points in three-straight games. On Wednesday his mettle will be tested against one of the nation’s top centers in Egidijus Mockevicius. The Lithuanian senior is averaging 16.6 points and is the nation’s leading rebounder at 13.9 rebounds per game.Following Wednesday’s game, the Bulldogs return to the road to take on Bradley in Peoria, Ill., Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
